Hi just wanted to say I am enjoying reading your blogs. I'm new to the whole web2.0 and am really keen to get some blogging up and running for my year 5 class. It's great to be finding real teachers out there putting in the effort and supporting their ideas with evidence from the class that blogging is a powerful and motivating literacy tool. I will be referring to your post when I go back to school next term and convince my school to give it a go. Cheers.

Hi, I think that getting the children to be enthused about writing by giving them a purpose or 'real life' context' is a very useful idea. As a class teacher back in England I can remember the groan from the class when it came round to assessed writing or sats (exam) practice, but I can also remember children getting really into their writing for example when we wrote some letters and emails to other schools during a global schools project. Another idea that worked very well was to produce class anthologies, magazines or newspapers from children's writing that would be kept in the class room where children could read them or show them to parents. I remember children really enjoying roleplaying as an editor or researcher for a paper!

Sure does. Oh and I was thinking about the goal you suggested, and that is something that I have been considering, however not as a goal, but it would be a great goal.

I haven't really decided what they will be blogging about. I have asked three kids to write articles for me for this week so will have to get that done. What I guess I am wanting to happen is that any writing the kids do in class has a chance to go online. It could be IBL related or writing from in class...does that make sense??

This sounds like a great goal Robin!! It will be intersting to see how the writing improves, given the new purpose to it. What will they be blogging about? Is there a topic that they will be following, or will it be open to them to decide?
